Mississippi Sunrise Mystery Quilt

July/August
We hope you're having fun working on Mississippi Sunrise! Do you have your center block, 8 chain blocks and 4 woven log blocks completed, and your borders cut and pieced? If so, give yourself a nice pat on the back for completing your 3rd Mississippi Sunrise mission! If not, no big deal- we're all busy, right? You can catch up during those hot summer days when it's too steamy to be outside! This issue's mission is to make 48 Flying Geese blocks. You'll also be cutting 4 setting triangles to set aside for later.

Instructions
Cut Block Fabrics
From the focus fabric cut:
48 - 3 1/8" x 4 5/8" squares (A)
Cut the squares in half diagonally for 96 triangles
From the dark coordinate cut:
16 - 2 7/8" x 8 ¾" rectangles (B)
From the medium coordinate cut:
16 - 2 7/8" x 8 ¾" rectangles (C)
From the light coordinate cut:
16 - 2 7/8" x 8 ¾" rectangles (D)

Assemble the Blocks
Trace the template outline onto template plastic or cardboard and cut out. Use the template to trim the 48 - 2 7/8" x 8 ¾" rectangles into triangles. These will become the centers of the flying geese blocks.
Sew a focus fabric (A) triangle (along the long diagonal side) to each corner of the coordinate fabric (B, C and D) triangles. Then sew 3 flying geese together into a block. You'll end up with 16 blocks made up of 3 flying geese units.

<-------------------------7 ½" ---------------------------->
These blocks will measure 7 ½" x 7 ½".

Cut Setting Triangle Fabric
From the focus fabric cut:
1 - 11 ¼" x 11 ¼" square
Cut the square in half diagonally twice so that you have 4 triangles.
Set these aside.

*We have made every effort to ensure the template prints out at the correct size (8 ¾” along the bottom).  However, due to your individual computer and printer settings, the template may print out larger or smaller than the intended size.  Please measure the template BEFORE you cut your fabrics

Have fun! Look for your next mission in the September/October Country Register.
