Mississippi Sunrise Mystery Quilt

May/June
Good work completing your second Mississippi Sunrise mission!  You should now have your center block completed, the borders cut and pieced, and 8 chain blocks.  This issue’s mission is to make four Woven Log blocks.

Instructions

Cut Block Fabrics
From the focus fabric cut:
4 – 1 7/8” x 1 7/8” squares (A)
From the dark coordinate cut:
8 – 1 1/8” x 4 Ύ” rectangles (C)
8 – 1 7/8” x 4 Ύ” rectangles (C-1)
From the medium coordinate cut:
16 – 1 3/8” x 4 Ύ” rectangles (D)
From the light coordinate cut:
8 – 1 1/8” x 4 Ύ” rectangles (E)
8 – 1 7/8” x 4 Ύ” rectangles (E-1)

Assemble the Blocks
Use the block diagram to help you assemble four woven log blocks.  First sew the C D and E fabrics together to create rail fence units.  Then start attaching the rail fence units together around the A fabric squares.  To attach your first rail fence unit to the A square you will use a partial seam.  If you have internet access, there is an excellent on-line tutorial on how to sew partial seams at http://quilting.about.com/od/piecingtechniques/ss/partial_seams.htm

The blocks will measure 7 ½” x 7 ½”.

Have fun!  Look for your next mission in the July/August Country Register.
